Flood Event Observations

Overview

Flood event observations are derived from two primary sources: high-water marks available through USGS STN flood event data and high-water levels above moderate flood stage from real-time gauge data provided by USGS Water Data Services.

Distribution

(left) Vermont has the largest number of observations, primarily from the 2023 July MA NY VT Flood event (547 observations). In contrast, Maine, the initially targeted state, has only 6 observations.

(right) The 2023-07 event in Vermont has the largest number of observations (20) across all states. High-water levels help fill gaps in the data. For example, Connecticut experienced the July 2023 Flood Event, but this is captured solely through the high-water level data.
